2.4 Lining. The boot shall have a waterproof soak containing of Thinsulate polyolefin/microfiber/polyester staple nonwoven insulation or equal (see 5.5). This shall be sandwiched between a Goretex polytetrafluorethylene film or equal (see 5.6) and thermoplastic adhesive. This shall be laminated to nylon tricot and a quilted nonwoven lining of 100 percent heterofil, point-bonded polyamide fibers. The seam sealing tape shall consist of three layaers: tricot knit, microporous polytetrafluorethylene film and thermoplastic adhesive.
2.5Lacing system. The lacing system shall consist of two to five pairs of corrosion-resistant AA eyelets, and six pairs of solid metal D-rings consisting of rivers, weathers, and D-rings with a single top eyelet. The D-rings shall be anodized black or tumble coated with not less than two coats of black enamel. The closure system shall be designed for quick donning and doffing. An open hook closure system shall not be acceptable.
2.6 Laces. The boot laces shall be 72-inch heavy-duty texturized nylon.
2.7 Sole. The vinyl storm welt shall be attached to a 10-iron midsole and a 4-iron rubber midsole prior to the application of the slip-resistant lug sole, style 148 black Kletterlift Vibram sole or equal (see 5.7), and the inside 30 degree bevel breasted spring heel using the Goodyear welt process or stitchdown process. The toe area of the outsole shall be securely stitched.
2.8 Counter. The counter shall be water resistant and designed to fit the curvature of the last.
2.9 Insole. A poron 4000 insole or equal shall be used (see 5.8).
2.10 Shank. The shank shall be 5/8-inch wide double rib 19 gage steel.
2.11 Boxtoe. The boxtoe shall conform to the boxtoe requirements of MIL-S-13192 or equal.
2.12 Bottom fill. The bottom fill shall be 1/8-inch closed-cell foam.
2.13 Instruction tag (Government unique requirements). Instruction tags, to be tied to the finished boots, shall be printed on 5-1/4 by 6-1/2 inch tag stock folded in the middle to form 5-1/4 by 3-1/4 inch printed pages in book form. A punch hole shall be made in the top near the folded edge for insertion of the lace. The instruction tags shall be printed using the data specified below (see 5.9).
