3.2.2. Insoles. The leather insoles shall be chrome-tanned and not less than 8 irons in thickness.

3.2.3 Midsole. The midsole, after leveling, shall be not less than 8 irons nor more than 10 irons in thickness.

3.2.4 Heel wedges. The heel wedge shall provide a minimum of 12/16 inch or a maximum of

15/16 inch of heel height measured from the outside line at the center breast line, and a minimum of 1-1/4 inches + 1/16 inch or a maximum of 1-3/8 inches + 1/16 inch at the back centerline.

3.2.5 Outsoles. The outsoles shall be fabricated of rubber and shall be not less than 16 irons in thickness. The hardness of the rubber shall be determined with a durometer in accordance with ASTM-D-2240, and shall be not less than 72 nor more than 84 before aging and not less than 72 nor more than 90 after aging for 24 hours at 100o + 1o C. The abrasive index before and after aging shall be 150 minimum when tested in accordance with ASTM-D-1630. The outer soles shall be rubber and shall be not less than 16 irons in thickness.

3.2.6 Safety box toes. The safety box toes shall be made from steel that will resist an impact of 75 foot-pounds when tested in accordance with ANSI Z41.1. The carbon content shall be

0.50 to 0.82 percent. The hardness shall be 44 to 54 Rockwell C Scale. The thickness shall be 0.050 to 0.055 inch.

3.2.7 Welt. The welt shall be a storm bead, black leather or plastic, and have the sole, midsole, and welt edges inked black.

3.2.8 Hardware. The nails shall be brass. The shanks shall be at least 17-gauge steel. Both the eyelets and the hooks shall be black or natural colored brass.

3.3 Lasts. The lasts on which the boots are to be made shall be supplied by the contractor.
