SHOES, GYMANSIUM: BASKETBALL, AND OTHER ACTIVITIES, HEAVY DUTY
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to MIL-S-43961.
Abstract. This commercial item description covers gymnasium shoes. The gymnasium shoes are intended to be worn by military personnel when involved in athletic activities such as basketball.
2. Salient characteristics.
Design and construction. The gymnasium shoes shall be white, be lowcut, and have a heavy duty canvas tongue and uppers. The shoes shall have a full length cushion sole and cushion arch support made of sponge rubber. The foxings, toe cap, and outer sole shall be made of natural rubber, synthetic rubber, or a combination of both. The outer sole shall be made of nonmarking material. A suitable counter and bias binding material, as usual by industry, should be used. The outer sole abrasive index shall be a minimum of 75 (ASTM D 1630) and the outer sole hardness shall be a minimum of 75 (ASTM D 1630) and the outer sole hardness shall be a minimum of 45 and a maximum of 65 (ASTM D 2240).
