COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION

BOOT, INTERMEDIATE COLD/WET

The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.

1. CLASSIFICATION

1.1Classification.This commercial item description covers one type of boot in whole and half sizes 5 through 14, and in widths B, C, D, EE, and EEE.

2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS

2.1 Description. The boots shall be fully lined, insulated, and waterproof. A size 9D boot shall be 10 � 1 inches in height, as measured upward on the outside from the tread area of the breast of the heel to the top of the boot. The size 9D boot shall weigh a maximum of 38 ounces. Height and weight shall vary proportionally with size. The top of the boot shall have a 1 inch cushioned collar for comfort, and shall protect against cold from entering from the top of the boot. The upper shall be made from black leather. The seam sealant for the upper in the vamping, backstay, and inseam areas shall be water resistant rubber or synthetic resin adhesive. The inside quarter lining or inside gusset of each boot shall be marked with the correct boot size and width.

2.2 Leather. The upper leather shall be from 5 to 5-1/2 ounces full grain waterproof leather. The leather shall be drum dyed black with a grain surface finish that when scuffed, may be restored to uniformity by simple brushing or application of commercial polish containing silicone.

2.3 Lasts. The lasts shall be Jones & Vining model 1-3048, style 701 or equal (see 5.4), in the sizes and widths as specified (see 5.2).
