COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SHOES, ELECTRICAL HAZARD PROTECTIVE (MEN’S SAFETY)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
Salient characteristics:
These non-conductive safety shoes are to be used when it is necessary for the worker to be insulated from the ground. The shoes shall have full or corrected grain chrome tanned or fully burnished black leather plain toe uppers, full cushion insoles with arch supports, steel toe caps and either neoprene, nitrie or miragum (12 iron min.) oil resistant heels and soles. The shoes shall have wooden shanks, no metal eyelets and nail free heel and sole Goodyear welt construction. UNICOR (FPI) only may use Process 82 string lasted molded construction. The shoes shall meet the general requirements for class -75 in ANSI Z41.1 for safety footwear. The issue of the ANSI standard in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with this requirement. Each shoe shall be labeled with the size, width and component material in accordance with normal commercial practice. The shoes shall be available in the following types:
TYPE – low quarter
TYPE – 6” high top
Depending on the contractor, UNICOR or industry, the shoes shall be available in the following whole (5-14) and half (5-11) sizes and widths:

Workmanship. The shoes shall be free of holes, cuts, loose threads, etc. or any other defect that would affect the comfort and/or wearability of the footwear.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and is the same product sold in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Regulatory requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. Packaging, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the contractor order.
Note: Purchaser should specify type, size and width required in the contractor order.
